Watercolor and Space

Mrs. Sweeney's 6th grade class has been learning about space, so for our first lesson together we merged art and space by making watercolor models of the earth orbiting the sun! These models show how seasons are created by the earth's axis tilt, and both the sun and the earth can be turned to show their rotation. Some students decided to add the moon to the model as well, which was wonderful!

Before the students started working on their models, I shared some watercolor tips. It was really cool to see the students testing them out and asking questions about it!
