While I love art, art education is my true passion. I love sharing ideas, processes, and artworks with students, and I especially love seeing their responses. Education is critical to our future, and art education is a key element of education. Students need to be able to think critically and creatively, as they are bombarded by so much information each day, and art education teaches critical thinking and creativity. Art is also a powerful way to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Art classrooms are safe places for students to explore the world around them and come to better understand themselves. I believe students are capable of so much, but the educational system often focuses more on standards than personal growth. As an art educator, I strive to overcome this issue and encourage student engagement through student-centered, project-based, and culturally relevant learning.
To learn about some of the lessons I have taught, look through my Curriculum Examples and Arts Bridge pages. You can access free art videos I made for the Elmwood Public Library here. If you are interested in private art lessons, please contact me! I have experience teaching in person and through video chat.
