Today we learned how to think about problems like an artist! We started off with time to complain. The only rule was that they could not complain about people in the room. I expected to get a lot complaints about chores and siblings, but most of the complaints were about important issues they face. I loved seeing how aware they are of the world around them.
We learned about socially engaged practice and installation art, then we looked at Ice Watch by Olafur Eliasson and Before I Die by Candy Chang. We had a fantastic discussion about the impact these artworks can have, then we talked about how to translate our own complaints into artworks. They discussed what they wanted to focus on in groups and talked about ideas for creating an artwork about it.
